Even apart, you’re in the same place.

A persistent virtual office where your team works, bumps into each other, and talks the moment they get close.

What is a virtual office?

A virtual office is a map your team is on all day, not a link you open for half an hour. You see who is around, walk over, and talk. When you need the door closed, you step into a room and close it.

What you get

Bump into your team

Everyone on the floor is a few steps away. Walk over and your microphones open; walk off and they close. No link, no invitation, no waiting for a reply.

Rooms you can close the door on

An office is rooms, not one open channel. A private room keeps what is said inside it. A video room adds camera and screen share, and a lock, so knocking is the way in.

Present without a camera

Audio on the floor, camera only inside a video room. Set yourself Available, Busy or Do not disturb; Sameplace marks you Away after five idle minutes.

Your desk, your office

Claim a desk and your team knows where to find you. Owners redraw the floor in the browser: floors, walls, doors, rooms and furniture, published to everyone at once.

Chat that knows where you are

A channel for the office and one for every room, direct messages, mentions and an activity feed. Send to the people standing near you without picking anybody out of a list.

Guests walk in with a link

Send a link to a client or a candidate. They type a name and they are on the floor, with no account to create. The visit ends when they leave.

How it works

  1. Create your office

Pick a template and name it. Small fits a team of six, medium a team of thirty.

  2. Invite your team

Email invitations, or one link. Everybody lands on the same floor.

  3. Jump in

Open the tab in the morning and leave it open. That is the whole ritual.

One plan, every feature

Sameplace is free while it is in early access. After that it is US$8 per member per month, and US$6.40 per member per month if you pay for the year. You get notice before the first charge.

Questions

What is a virtual office?

A map your team is on all day. Everybody has an avatar, walks around, and talks to whoever they walk up to. It replaces the habit of booking half an hour to ask a question.

Do we have to be on camera?

No. The floor is audio only, by design. A camera turns on inside a video room, when you switch it on, and nowhere else.

What does it cost?

Nothing while Sameplace is in early access. After that, US$8 per member per month, and US$6.40 per member per month if you pay for the year. No card is asked for now, and you get notice before the first charge.

Which browsers does it run in?

Desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, the last two versions of each. There is no mobile app, and the office does not run on a phone.

Where does our data live?

The database is with Neon and the pages with Vercel. Audio and screens run on servers we rent from OVHcloud in Europe and nowhere else. Whiteboards are Excalidraw rooms, hosted by Excalidraw.

Does it work behind a corporate firewall?

Yes. When a network blocks the ports audio normally uses, Sameplace relays it over a TLS connection instead, which is the traffic every corporate network already allows.

Does it speak Spanish?

Yes. The product and this site are written in English and Spanish, and each person picks their own.
